Winsen MPn-5 Propane Sensor Receives UL 2075 Certification at SENSOR CHINA 2026

On September 17, SENSOR CHINA 2026 entered its second day in Shanghai, and Winsen Booth 2C001-1 welcomed one of the key moments of this year's exhibition: the on-site UL 2075 certification presentation for the MPn-5 Semiconductor Propane Sensor.
During the ceremony, representatives from UL presented the certification certificate to Winsen, marking an important milestone for our propane sensing technology and its application in gas safety products.
For Winsen, this certification is not only a recognition of one product. It is also a validation of our long-term investment in sensing materials, sensor structure design, manufacturing consistency and safety-oriented product development.

Why UL 2075 Certification Matters for Propane Detection
Propane is one of the main components of liquefied petroleum gas, widely used in residential kitchens, commercial gas systems, RVs, outdoor equipment and other fuel-gas applications.
For gas safety devices, the sensor is the first component that detects a potential leakage risk. Its performance directly affects the reliability of the whole alarm system.
In real applications, propane sensors need to operate continuously for years while facing many practical challenges, including:
- temperature and humidity variation;
- kitchen vapors and household chemicals;
- siloxane interference;
- long-term material aging;
- sensor poisoning risk;
- high-concentration gas exposure;
- manufacturing consistency across batches.
UL 2075, Gas and Vapor Detectors and Sensors, is an important standard for gas detection products and sensing components. It evaluates product performance, reliability and safety-related characteristics under defined requirements.
Receiving UL 2075 certification means that the MPn-5 has passed a structured and recognized evaluation process for propane sensing applications, providing stronger confidence for OEM customers developing LPG and propane gas detection products.
MPn-5: Designed for Long-Term LPG Gas Safety Applications
The MPn-5 Semiconductor Propane Sensor is developed for propane and LPG gas detection applications where long-term stability and practical anti-interference performance are critical.
Unlike laboratory-only performance, real gas safety products must remain reliable after long periods of operation. A sensor may stay in service for years before encountering an actual gas leakage event. This makes long-term stability one of the most important indicators for safety-related sensors.
MPn-5 is designed with an expected service life of up to 10 years, supporting OEM manufacturers in developing gas alarm products with longer operating cycles and lower maintenance requirements.
For residential and commercial gas detection equipment, this long-life design helps improve:
- product reliability;
- user confidence;
- maintenance efficiency;
- replacement-cycle management;
- overall safety system stability.
Advanced Semiconductor Sensing with Optimized Thermal Management
MPn-5 applies micro-heater thermal management technology to semiconductor gas sensing.
Thermal management is critical for semiconductor gas sensors because the sensing reaction is closely related to the operating temperature of the sensitive material. A stable and well-controlled heating structure helps improve sensor response consistency, anti-interference performance and long-term stability.
Through optimized heater design, sensing material formulation and structural engineering, MPn-5 improves several key performance dimensions required by propane detection applications.
Improved High-Concentration Stability
In gas alarm applications, sensors may occasionally be exposed to relatively high concentrations of target gas or interfering gases.
MPn-5 adopts an optimized sensor structure and material system to improve stability after high-concentration exposure, helping the sensor recover more reliably and maintain usable performance over long-term operation.
Stronger Anti-Interference and Anti-Poisoning Performance
Kitchen and household gas detection environments can contain alcohol vapors, oil fumes, cleaning agents, silicone-containing substances and other potential interferents.
MPn-5 is designed with improved resistance to interference and poisoning, especially for practical application environments where gas sensors cannot be protected from every background substance.
This capability is important for reducing false alarms, maintaining stable output and improving the reliability of the final gas detection product.
Better Manufacturing Consistency
Gas alarm manufacturers need more than a single high-performing sample. They need sensors that can be produced consistently at scale.
Winsen applies advanced micro/nano semiconductor material preparation, high-precision processing equipment and improved thick-film process control to enhance batch consistency.
This supports OEM customers in calibration, production testing and long-term supply planning.

From Certification to OEM Application Value
For OEM gas detector manufacturers, certification-oriented sensor development can reduce uncertainty during product design.
A certified sensing component does not replace final product compliance, but it provides a stronger foundation for customers developing gas detection devices for international markets.
MPn-5 can support applications such as:
- residential LPG gas alarms;
- propane gas leak detectors;
- kitchen gas safety devices;
- commercial gas monitoring equipment;
- integrated combustible gas detection systems;
- safety products for propane-related applications.
For customers working on LPG or propane detection projects, MPn-5 offers a combination of long service life, stable semiconductor sensing performance and certification support.
This makes the product especially suitable for manufacturers who need a propane sensor that can meet both technical performance expectations and market access requirements.
Expanding Winsen's International Certification Portfolio
The MPn-5 certification also reflects Winsen's broader strategy of building an internationally recognized gas sensor portfolio.
Before MPn-5, Winsen's ME2-CO-Ф14×5 and MEs-CO carbon monoxide sensors had also obtained UL 2075 certification.
With MPn-5 now certified, Winsen continues to expand from carbon monoxide sensing to propane detection, further strengthening our product foundation for household safety, commercial safety and gas alarm applications.
In the future, Winsen will continue promoting certification work for more sensor categories, including refrigerant sensors and methane sensors, helping global customers select reliable sensing components for different safety-critical applications.
SMX100 Intelligent Sensor Series Wins Industry Recognition
In addition to the UL certification ceremony, Winsen also received recognition at SENSOR CHINA 2026 for our intelligent sensing technology.
At the SENSOR CHINA 2026 Sensor Industry Night and International Intelligent Sensor Innovation Competition award ceremony, the SMX100 Series miniature intelligent gas sensors won the Second Prize in the innovation competition.
This recognition highlights another important direction of Winsen's technology development: gas sensors are becoming smaller, smarter and more deeply integrated with application systems.
The SMX100 Series is designed for applications where compact size, low power consumption and intelligent signal processing are increasingly important, such as:
- portable gas detectors;
- industrial IoT terminals;
- smart safety devices;
- inspection robots;
- low-altitude unmanned platforms;
- compact industrial monitoring equipment.
From traditional gas sensing to intelligent sensor platforms, Winsen is continuously developing products that meet the needs of next-generation safety and automation systems.
Sensor Innovation for Safer and Smarter Applications
At SENSOR CHINA 2026, Winsen presented solutions across gas safety, industrial safety, energy storage safety and smart home sensing.
These application areas may look different, but they share the same foundation:
Reliable sensing is the starting point of intelligent protection.
Whether the application is propane leakage detection in a kitchen, toxic gas monitoring in an industrial plant, early warning in an energy storage system or environmental sensing in smart appliances, the sensor must provide stable and trustworthy data before the system can respond correctly.
This is why Winsen continues to invest in:
- sensing material development;
- sensor structure optimization;
- manufacturing process control;
- product reliability testing;
- international certification;
- application-oriented sensor solutions.
Moving Forward with Global Partners
The on-site UL 2075 certification presentation for MPn-5 was one of the most meaningful moments for Winsen at SENSOR CHINA 2026.
It represents a product milestone, but more importantly, it represents the direction we continue to pursue: developing reliable gas sensing technologies that can support safer products and wider global applications.
Winsen will continue to work with OEM customers, gas safety equipment manufacturers and industry partners to provide high-quality sensor solutions for propane detection, combustible gas safety, carbon monoxide monitoring, refrigerant leakage detection, industrial gas monitoring and more application fields.
